Grade 6 Field trip
Field Trip to Good Earth

Coconut and guava trees, green paddy fields and streams teeming with fishes and crabs, butterflies fluttering over the bushes, birds chirping on the mango trees.... these were the sights and sounds that greeted the students of class VI, who visited The Good Earth School. The lush green campus of 16 acres is where our budding nature enthusiasts tried their hand at various activities. This trip, an attempt to be one with nature was sponsored on the occasion of vanamahotsava celebrations being conducted in the school.

Ms. Vidya Premkumar, the secretary of the institution, located 23km from the city in Naduveerapattu Village and Ms. Parameswari, from the department of Home Science, welcomed the students after a long yet joyful bus ride.

The students were welcomed with a refreshing lime juice and freshly baked biscuits. An introductory speech which highlighted the interdependency of man and earth was very informative, and the students were acquainted with the historical significance of the place. The students then eagerly trudged off on a nature walk around the campus. The irrigated fields, the lush green paddy and vegetable patches beckoned to one and all.

After a sumptuous vegetarian meal cooked with vegetables and rice grown at the farm, the children participated in a guest lecture. The day came to an end with another guest Dr. Gnanasekar, Assistant professor, Department of Botany, Madras Christian College, lecturing on ‘Green Campus’ and its significance. The students returned home wiser and with a greater sense of satisfaction and happiness after a day spent on the lap of Mother Nature.
