Young Entrepreneurship Programme 2019-2020
The culmination of months of planning, execution and efforts, Market Day marked the grand finale to the Young Entrepreneurship Programme at NPSI, Chennai. This curriculum linked programme presents multiple learning opportunities for the students of Grade 6 to develop their creativity, communication and collaboration skills.
Work is kicked off as early as July when students work in groups to ideate and present a sample product. Budgetting, procurement of material and planning took place after which they made emphatic presentations to parents seeking venture capital money with a promise to return the principal amount after Market Day. They answered tough questions on profits, marketing and quality with poise.
With seed money in hand, 27 young business enterprises set out to create their products. Time was allotted in their school schedule to work in groups, collaborate and give life to their creations. From magnets to photo frames, wall decors, jewellery, placemats, bookmarks, greeting cards and even robotic bugs, children worked together to steer their creativity.
As parents and grandparents walked in on Market day, the excitement was palpable. With jingles and spot offers, our children wooed customers to buy their products.
As we wrapped for the day, almost all groups found themselves sold out with substantial profit earned. While seed money was returned to the venture capitalists, profits were given to charity.
YEP served as an ideal platform for the students of grade 6 to pick up skills like communication, team work, money management and social responsibility.
