Learning Through Inclusion 2025-26
in Kotturpuram, to engage in meaningful interactions and understand the true essence of inclusivity. The visit was conducted over two days, with two different groups of students participating, each experiencing unique and enriching learning opportunities.
On Day 1, the first group attended an orientation session that introduced Vidyasagar’s vision and its commitment to inclusive education. Students were sensitised to the idea that disability does not define ability and that every child possesses unique strengths. As the visit coincided with Language Orientation Month, students were introduced to the basics of sign language, learning alphabets and symbols to support effective communication.
This learning was reinforced through an interactive treasure hunt, where clues were given in sign language, encouraging teamwork and problem-solving. During the activity, Vidyasagar teachers explained how the school’s infrastructure supports children with diverse needs. Students observed barrier-free features such as doors that open both ways, toilets with support rails and anti-skid flooring, low-placed switches for wheelchair users, and other inclusive design elements that promote safety and independence.
Later, students collaborated with Vidyasagar children to create art and craft materials for the school’s upcoming Theatre Day. The day concluded with a lively music and dance performance, celebrating creativity and inclusion.
On Day 2, the second group engaged with the students and staff while assisting in preparations for Vidyasagar’s upcoming Symposium on Biogas. They worked together to design posters and displays, offering support in research and presentation ideas. This collaborative effort highlighted the importance of communication, empathy, and teamwork.
Overall, the visit was a deeply transformative experience. It fostered empathy, respect for diversity, and a deeper understanding of inclusivity, reminding students that education is truly meaningful when it builds compassion and shared learning.
