Independence Day 2025
The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride at NPS International, Chennai. The day was planned to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters while reminding students of their duty as responsible citizens. It turned out to be a memorable morning filled with colour, energy, and the spirit of togetherness. From flag hoisting to cultural performances and creative competitions, the celebration brought together students from Grades 3 to 12 in a vibrant display of unity and patriotism.
The programme opened with a warm welcome by student comperes who set the tone for the day. The national flag was then hoisted by the Associate Principal, as the entire school community stood in respectful silence. A proud flag salute followed, led by the PT Department, and the atmosphere was charged with reverence and pride.
The cultural segment began with Tamil Thai Vazhthu and the Flag Song, sung in unison by the students. Their voices filled the quadrangle, creating an atmosphere of solemnity and patriotism. The Associate Principal, Ms. Ranjani Ayyar, then addressed the gathering with an inspiring message. She reminded everyone of the sacrifices that had secured India’s freedom and urged students to hold fast to the values of unity, responsibility, and service to the nation.
This was followed by a lively dance performance by Grade 5 students, choreographed with bright costumes and cheerful energy, which drew warm applause from the audience. Immediately after, Grades 4 and 5 came together for a spirited group song that celebrated the idea of courage and resilience.
The School Prefect delivered an address that reflected on the important role of today’s youth in shaping tomorrow’s India. The words resonated with the audience, who listened intently. The Associate Principal, Ms. Radhika Madhavan, followed with her address, focusing on the importance of education, civic engagement, and the responsibilities that come with freedom. Her message served as a reminder that independence is not just about rights but also about duties.
The programme continued with a powerful Hindi speech delivered by a senior student, expressing the pride and hope that young people carry for the nation. This was followed by a spirited dance performance by students from Grades 6 to 8, which combined rhythm, movement, and patriotic symbolism. The cultural sequence also featured a Tamil speech by a Grade 12 student that added depth to the programme. The event concluded with a stirring rendition of “Vande Mataram,” a heartfelt vote of thanks by the Vice Prefect, and finally, the National Anthem sung with pride by all.
After the formal assembly, the celebrations continued across the campus with creative competitions designed to engage students at every level. Younger students from Grades 3 to 5 participated in a drawing and colouring competition, using their imagination and colours to express patriotism in simple yet powerful ways. Grades 6 and 7 took part in T-shirt painting, filling plain shirts with bold, creative designs inspired by the tricolour, while Grade 8 explored doodle art, turning ordinary lines and shapes into artistic reflections of freedom and unity. For senior students of Grades 9 to 12, the focus shifted to words. They participated in literary competitions that included creative writing and poetry in multiple languages, providing them a platform to express thoughts on independence, identity, and dreams for the future.
One of the most memorable highlights of the day came from an unexpected, spontaneous initiative. Senior students painted the tricolour on the cheeks and hands of younger children from Grades 3 to 8. Though not part of the official programme, this small act filled the campus with laughter, colour, and joy. It was a simple yet deeply symbolic gesture that captured the true spirit of the day—a celebration of freedom, unity, and shared pride.
The 79th Independence Day celebrations at NPS International, Chennai, truly showcased the talent and energy of the students while paying tribute to the nation’s legacy. Every part of the programme—from the ceremonial flag hoisting to the cultural performances and creative competitions—reflected the values of unity, responsibility, and pride. Thanks to the efforts of teachers, coordinators, and students, the day was not just another annual event but a meaningful reminder of what independence means to all of us.
