Diwali Celebration 2025
The Diwali celebration at NPS International was held on Friday, 17th October 2025. The event was hosted by the Middle School and attended by students from Grades 1 to 8, who formed a lively and appreciative audience. The participants, from Grades 6 to 8, presented a series of performances that captured the essence of Diwali — a festival that celebrates light, goodness, and togetherness.
The programme began with a warm welcome by the Middle School emcees, who introduced the theme of Diwali as a time for joy, reflection, and renewal. They highlighted how the festival reminds us to choose light over darkness and kindness over indifference. The celebration officially began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Associate Principals, Ms. Ranjani Ayyar and Ms. Radhika Madhavan. The act symbolised the spreading of light and wisdom and marked an auspicious start to the morning’s events.
First up was a musical presentation by the students of grades 6 to 8. The Marathi song, based on Diwali celebrations in Maharashtra, described the joy of cleaning homes, preparing sweets, decorating with lanterns, and sharing festive moments with loved ones. The song’s lively rhythm and cheerful voices created a warm and festive atmosphere, setting the tone for the rest of the programme.
This was followed by a dance-drama inspired by The Ramayana. The performance began with a Sanskrit shloka that invoked blessings and peace. Through expressive dance and well-coordinated movements, the students retold the story of Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana — their exile, Sita’s abduction by Ravana, and Lord Rama’s eventual victory with the help of Hanuman and his army. The performance ended with another shloka and a depiction of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. The portrayal reminded everyone of the spiritual significance of Diwali and why it continues to be celebrated with devotion and hope. The next segment was a mime performance titled Lighting Lives with Kindness, Care, and Respect. Without the use of words, the students communicated powerful messages about compassion, responsibility, and mindful celebration. Through five short scenes, they explored themes such as sharing with the less fortunate, celebrating in an eco-friendly manner, showing care for elders and animals, and the importance of community and togetherness. Between the scenes, the narrators interacted with the audience, asking simple questions that encouraged reflection and active participation. The mime ended with all performers holding diyas to symbolise the light within us — kindness, care, and respect for others.
A vibrant group dance followed – the colourful costumes, coordinated movements, and joyful expressions brought energy and enthusiasm to the stage, capturing the festive mood of Diwali.
A Grade 6 student then delivered a short but meaningful speech titled What Diwali Means to Me. The student shared how Diwali is not just about lights and sweets but also about spreading smiles, caring for others, and keeping our surroundings safe and clean.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by a Grade 8 student, who expressed gratitude to the Associate Principals, teachers, staff, and participants for their support and effort. The morning ended on a bright and positive note, reminding everyone that Diwali is truly a festival of light — both around us and within us.
