Grade 11 - Visit to Anna Centenary Library
A Journey Through Knowledge and Inclusivity
The students at our school recently visited the Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram as part of an experiential learning initiative. The trip offered them a chance to see how one of India’s largest libraries brings together knowledge, accessibility, and inclusivity.
Welcome by the staff, students explored the spacious and thoughtfully designed building. They were especially impressed by features like ramps, lifts, Braille signage, and assistive reading devices that make the library accessible to everyone, including visually impaired readers.
Each floor revealed a new area of learning — from Braille and audio books on the ground floor to children’s sections, literature, sciences, and technology across the upper levels. The clear organisation made it easy to navigate a wide range of subjects.
Students also noticed the blend of modern and traditional resources, with digital services alongside rare manuscripts. The calm reading spaces and bright interiors created a perfect environment for learning.
A key highlight was understanding how the library supports people with special needs through adaptive technology and inclusive design.
In essence, the visit to Anna Centenary Library was more than just an educational outing — it was a reminder of how knowledge, when made accessible to all, becomes a shared treasure. The experience fostered curiosity, empathy, and a renewed enthusiasm for reading among students, making it a truly memorable day of learning beyond the classroom.
