Tamil Day celebration 2026
NPS International School, Chennai, witnessed a vibrant celebration of language, culture, and creativity on 13 January 2026, as students came together to mark Tamil Day, followed by a colourful Rangoli Fest.
The Tamil Day celebration began on a graceful note with the rendition of Tamil Thai Vazhthu, filling the auditorium with pride and reverence for the Tamil language. Students from Grades 5 to 8, numbering around 120, participated enthusiastically in the programme. The performances that followed beautifully reflected the richness of Tamil culture. Classical Bharatanatyam and lively folk dances captivated the audience, with the colourful costumes and expressive movements adding charm to the occasion.
One of the most engaging segments of the programme was the Villupattu performance. Through music, rhythm, and storytelling, the artists brought traditional tales to life, highlighting important moral values and cultural traditions. The celebration became even more vibrant with live folk art forms such as Oyilattam, Parai, Kummi, Kolattam, Poikaal Kuthirai, Karagattam, Puliattam, and a delightful puppet show, which kept the audience thoroughly entertained.
Adding to the cultural experience, Grade 5 students presented an enactment of Pongal celebrations in Tamil Nadu, offering a glimpse into the joy and warmth of this harvest festival. Students also shared thoughtful reflections on the importance of preserving the Tamil language and its heritage. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks.
Following the cultural programme, the school quadrangle came alive with the Rangoli Fest, where Grade 9 students showcased their creativity through intricate designs and vibrant colours. The campus transformed into a visual treat, reflecting the students’ imagination, patience, and artistic expression. Together, the celebrations made the day joyful, meaningful, and truly memorable for all.
