Grade 5 – Heritage Field Trip
The students of Grade 5 (Sections A, B, C, and D) set out on a heritage field trip on Monday, 1st September 2025, from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. The trip was designed to take learning beyond the classroom and give children a chance to experience the rich cultural and historical heritage of Chennai.
Excitement filled the air as the buses rolled out of the school premises at 9:00 am. Each section travelled in its own bus, but the sense of adventure was shared by all. The children eagerly looked out of the windows, ready to spot the city’s well-known landmarks.
The first stop was the Ripon Building, Chennai’s proud Indo-Saracenic landmark. Students admired its white elegance and paused to take in its grandeur. The journey then took them past the Chennai Central Railway Station and the Madras High Court, where the children were amazed by the scale and beauty of the architecture.
The next halt was at the Fort St. George Museum, history truly came alive. Students walked through galleries displaying colonial artifacts, coins, porcelain ware, antique weaponry, and paintings. With their journals in hand, they busily noted their observations, sketching, writing, and asking thoughtful questions. Their eyes lit up as they connected classroom lessons to real-life exhibits.
The final stop was the Santhome Basilica, built over the tomb of St. Thomas the Apostle. Inside, students marvelled at the tall vaulted ceilings, colourful stained-glass windows, and the quiet grandeur of the neo-Gothic style. They also visited the museum and crypt, where sacred relics are preserved. This visit allowed them to connect with history, culture, and art in a deeply meaningful way.
A special highlight of the day was the lunch break. A dedicated area within the campus was allotted for the students of all four sections to sit together. Carrying their lunch from home, they enjoyed their food, laughter, and conversations with their friends. The joyful atmosphere created a lovely bond of togetherness, as students from different sections mingled, strengthening friendships, camaraderie and creating fond memories.
The Grade 5 Heritage Field Trip was truly an enriching and memorable experience. It not only deepened students’ understanding of Chennai’s historical and cultural legacy but also created opportunities for friendship, unity, and joyful learning. The day left every child with new knowledge, warm memories, and a sense of pride in their city’s heritage.
