Annual Sports Meet 2017-2018
The sound of the rhythmic band, students marching past the chief guest resplendent in their white uniform, the school athletic champions carrying with pride the torch and the intense yet healthy races – these are some of the many defining moments of our 4rth Annual Sports meet held on the 26th day of January. The Indian flag flying high on the Indian Republic Day, the event began with the invocation song. This was followed by our Chief Guest Ms.Lalitha Das, our administrator, took the general salute of the marching students in their respective houses led by the school prefect Hariharan Venkat of Grade 11 and the vice – prefect Ananth Venkatesh of Grade 10. The oath of honour was taken by the sports captain Harine of Grade 11 on behalf of all the participating athletes. The Principal congratulated the winners of the various individual and team events whose prizes were distributed the previous week on the 22nd of January.
Following the march – past was the daring display of our students from grade 2 and above on the wave boards. With 33 students taking turns to exhibit their skills, the different stunts and the ease of working the boards amazed the spectators. The simple wave – boarding, the squat, the back and the front wheelie, the zig - zag and the chain wave that had 12 students wave – boarding together were some of the skills that were on display. The students were appreciated for their deftness with the curved boards.
With the sports meet declared open, the different athletes competed in the various categories of races representing their houses. The competition was quite intense with many of the races being neck – to – neck. These races also decided the individual championship for each of the categories. After the races, games for parents and grand-parents were held amid fun and fanfare. The prizes were given away by our Principal and our Chief Guest. A cricket game for the teachers was held on the 12th of January with the faculty segregated intot he four houses. the matches saw 11 players from each house competing against one another in the field. The Voyagers team emerged victorious in the finals against the Pioneers with Ms, Nalni winning the Woman of the Series award. The Best player trophy was bagged by Ms. Sreedevi while the Most Promising Player trophy was awarded to Ms. Prabha.
The main prize – winning ceremony began with the Chief Guest awarding the trophies to the individual champions. The march-past shield was bagged by the Explorers team for their coordinated performance. The Voyagers house emerged the Intra mural, Athletic and the overall championship trophy. The winners and the participants were applauded and cheered. The successful event ended with the victory lap undertaken by the Voyagers House.
Triumph does not come overnight. Indeed, the PT department has been working throughout the year with the students and have organised the various team and individual events to determine the winners. The Sports Day event was a culmination of the hard work, grit and determination to excel teaching kids valuable life lessons such as the sporting spirit and the pride in participation. The Day was a grand accomplishment indeed.
